News:

So, I often get asked "How you doin'?" so I figured that I would start up a little news page to keep everyone posted on how I'm doin'.

Wow... Here we are again... Well, a month ago I completed a bass for Dwayne Dolphin. It was my first piccolo bass and also my first 4-string bass. So far, I'm thinking that he's enjoying it. I haven't heard any complaints...

Next on the bench is finishing up the second bass for Paul Thompson. Another 6-String for him. Birds-eye maple top on Alder body wings. All Bartolini electronics... 3/4" string spacing at the bridge. THIS THING IS A MONSTER! 5-piece neck, matching headstock... It's kind of a mixture of the last bass I made for him and a Fender Jazz. I'm getting real close to getting this one done...

It don't look like the same bass front to back...

After that? I keep telling myself that I'm going to build myself a 4-string. I have all the parts, I just need to get on it... Something like this here...

All things considered, things are going pretty well... I'm currently getting back in gear on a new bass for Paul Thompson. I hope to have that one done soon. Not that anyone would be interested, but I've changed my "diet" and have begun feel much better.

On the playing front, Dante's Inferno has picked up steady gig Thursday nights at a place called Sunseri's at 3385 Babcock Blvd. in the North Hills. Cool place with cool people...

Most of you know about the motorcycle accident I was in last year. I am still getting my strength back, not that I was in that good of shape to begin with, but the recuperation has been difficult. I haven't been working too much in the shop. I actually have been turning down work.. So, do I have a time table on how fast I'm going to be back, busting my hump, working on basses again? No... I have to keep my family fed (and insured) so my day job is #1... It's actually a great company to work for...Check 'em out... (www.vocollect.com) They were absolutely awesome during my absence.

So, I'm thinking of experimenting with making a Fender style bass next... Probably a 4-string P/J configuration, with some kind of whacked out color. It sucks when you make a bass that blends in so well with the environment (other basses) that nobody asks you about it. I'm thinking maybe a Lime-Green/Orange burst, and staining the neck/fingerboard orange with a lime-green headstock... Kind of like a Cindy Lauper vibe... We'll see what happens. This will be my first bolt-on neck and I think that I'll probably fall in love with the advantages of making an instrument with a bolt on...

First, the finishing will be a dream!!! Won't have to manipulate a whole guitar when applying the finish. Plus, there won't be as much wood waste. I hate it when good wood goes to waste. There are probably many other advantages that I can't think of at the moment, but it will be neat to see those unfold.

Peace!
